We accept all Photoshop files from both PC and Mac
up to version 6.0 (some of these instructions may apply
only to versions 4.0 and 5.0) |
| • |
If you are using the full version of Photoshop,
please start designing the business card in CMYK mode
instead of RGB. |
| • |
Do not apply trapping unless you know what you're
doing, but if want to set it at .28 pt and let us know
you've done it.. |
| • |
If you use a black background, set the color for
the black as follows: C=40%, M=40%, Y=20%, K=100%. |
| • |
If you're creating a business card in Photoshop,
you need to begin your new file with the following settings:
(follow similar procedures and resolutions for most
files created in Photoshop)

|
| • |
Then pull your guides out from your rules to form
the following template.

|
| • |
Remember that text applied in Photoshop will be
half-toned. This leaves some text with very jagged edges.
All the other programs that we accept, are vector based,
so the text created in these programs will not be half-toned,
but will look sharp if left as a black color. Small
colored text is not recommended regardless of the program,
because any text that is colored is automatically half-toned
if the color is not a 100% tint of one of the CMYK colors.

A great method to use if you only have Photoshop
is to type your text in a separate file with the mode
(not file type) set to bitmap and your resolution set
to 800 ppi. We can then overlay the text in QuarkXPress
and apply color to the text if you save your file as
a TIFF with LZW compression off. See the following example
of setting up the file for your text. Remember, we will
apply the color to the text in QuarkXPress. |
| • |
This means you will be sending us one CMYK file
for the background and one B&W TIFF for the text
in your order. Multiples sets of cards only need to
send the background once and one overlay for each name.
