Hybrid
Networks Offer New Options
Customers
want more bandwidth--and aren't fussy about how they get it

"Enterprise
frame relay networks now handle more traffic and more
locations, leaving managers searching for higher speeds and a
way to manage traffic types that flow across the network.
That's where ATM fits in. ATM
boasts superior scalability and the ability to prioritize
traffic via quality-of-service parameters. But the service
typically has been too costly and complex to use throughout an
entire network.
Southern
Internet (Altipoint) and its customers use various access methods,
including frame relay, to attach locally to MCI WorldCom. The company,
which operates metropolitan area networks across the Southeast, funnels
traffic from its own customers across the MCI WorldCom ATM backbone
to the Internet."

“In
today’s global economy, the network is at the very heart of
business. Nowhere
is this more true than at Altipoint Communications, a new
breed of competitive service provider.
Altipoint provides all types of broadband and Internet
access for their business customers, as traditionally separate
voice and data networks are converging into one shared
infrastructure. MCIWorldCom
is Altipoint’s partner in this effort, …to assist
Altipoint’s customers in realizing dramatic cost savings,
while achieving a level of comfort that their mission critical
networks will be able to communicate with customers, suppliers
and partners reliably and efficiently”
MCI WorldCom, April, 2000
